My Sustainable Forest in LIGNA’s wood industry summit

From 27th to 31st May, a new edition of the wood industry summit LIGNA was held in Hannover, Germany, to present the complete range of the highly innovative sector of the wood processing and transformation industry. Under the motto Making more out of Wood, the latest inspection systems and new intelligent technologies applicable to this industry were showcased, among others.

My Sustainable Forest project was present in this 2019 edition in which our consortium representatives Julia Yagüe and Esther Merlo were in charge to promote its novelties and applications for forest management using satellite technology and earth observation data. Attendees from all over the globe had the opportunity to learn more about our platform through personalised demonstrations and detailed information about forest management using remote sensing data.

Throughout the three-days event, the project leader, Spanish company GMV, together with our partner Madera Plus, informed a wide range of stakeholders and interested parties who took part in the congress about the project. They were impressed by this H2020 initiative and described it as one of the most ambitious in Europe for the future of forestry.

Participants at the Hanover fair were able to discover the services offered by the project and the latest progress of the initiative, which aims to integrate earth observation technology and tools into forest management, by attempting to promote a more sustainable use. Biomass evaluation, preparation of wood quality maps, development of a strategy against climate change and detection of vulnerabilities are some of the applications developed during the evolution of this research project so far.
